Private Tutoring

7th and 8th Grade Mathematics

Algebra I and Geometry

AP Calc. I, AP Calc. II, AP Stat.

During my time at Hamilton Middle School, within the Denver Public School System, I taught with a talented team of teachers that specialized in the publicly available JUMP Math curriculum (https://jumpmath.org/us/)

While at Eaglecrest High, I was able to venture out on my own and create a curriculum developed for the students needs within my classroom. I used traditional techniques combined with modern approaches to create a curriculum that immerses my students in the math mindset.

An incredible learning opportunity for both my students and I. Under my mentor teacher I was able to excel in teaching very difficult content at the AP level during my first year being an educator.

Volunteer Work

Math Day / STEM Night Volunteer / After School Film Class

While I was still working as an engineer, I began my journey into education by volunteering at a school called Monitor Elementary. My fiancé worked as a 5th grade teacher there, and when I began to complain about missing my tutoring clients, she suggested I volunteer.

I volunteered for everything I could and even got “Math Day” approved. My degree is specifically in mathematics, so we planned a full “Math Day with Mr. Jones” that included hands-on activities, a STEM lesson in project design, and of course, lots of easy-to-comprehend math. Afterwards, I was invited to chaperone STEM Night--an afterschool, night-time event that runs once a year. I kept returning until COVID prevented me from doing so.

COVID also got in the way of my teaching an ‘introduction to film’ class for young students. It was after-school, thus not required to meet any sort of curriculum requirements, so I was able to talk about topics such as style, motivation, and character choice--low entry, high ceiling topics for greater artistic understanding . The whole point was to talk about all the requirements of a movie, so that at the end of the semester, the students could put together a 10 to 20 minute movie that they would be able to write, play, and direct themselves.
